DOstamper STARS Thursday Challenge No. 236: Flourishing Phrases & Swirly Scribbles

DOSstamper STARS Thursday Challenge No.236 - Color My World

Time for the DOstamper STARS Thursday Challenge, this week it is a "Color My World" Challenge.

This week I was inspired by a card in the 2017-18 Annual Catalog. Do you recognize it?

DOSstamper STARS Thursday Challenge No.236 - Flourishing Phrases Swirly Bird stamp sets card created by Dawn Thomas #crackedpotstamper

Due to a family emergency, I flew home to Iowa 10 days ago. I have been trying to be crafty in my mom's craft room...not an easy task.

I had to scrounge around a bit but I did finally find some things that I could combine to create this beautiful card.

  • I now know what she will be getting for her birthday and Christmas.

I love the versatility of this card, with a few changes (colors or sentiment or both) you could have a completely different card.

What did I use to create this beauty? (scroll down to bottom for complete supply list and links)

Stamp Set: Swirly Birds and Flourishing Phrases

Paper: Delightful Daisy Designer Series Paper, Calypso Coral and Whisper White

Ink: Sweet Sugarplum, Calypso Coral, Whisper White Craft

Accessories: Swirly Scribbles Thinlits, Layering Circles Framelits, Stitched Shapes Framelits, Linen Thread

It's All in the Details:

  1. Stamp greeting (Flourishing Phrases stamp set) with Whisper White Craft Ink on Calypso Coral cardstock, die cut with Stitched Shapes Framelit.  Die cut scrap of Whisper White cardstock with scalloped circle from Layering Circle Framelits. Adhere circles together.
  2. Stamp flower image (Swirly Bird stamp set) on Whisper White cardstock with Calypso Coral ink. Stamp circular images (Swirly Bird stamp set) on Whisper White cardstock with Sweet Sugarplum ink. Die cut with coordinating framelits (Swirly Scribbles Thinlits).
  3. Die cut leaf shapes (Swirly Scribbles Thinlits) from Delightful Daisy Designer Series Paper.
  4. Die cut 4 large and 4 small swirls (Swirly Scribbles Thinlits) from Whisper White yardstick. Using Fine Tip Glue Pen, adhere swirls to 3-3/4" x 5" Whisper White layer, trim edges. Adhere Whisper White layer to folded 11" x 4-1/4" Calypso Coral card base.
  5. Tie bow with approximately 6" piece of Linen Thread, adhere with Glue Dot.
  6. Adhere flowers and leaves using Glue Dots and Stampin' Dimensionals.
  7. Address envelope and send off to someone special.

DOstamper STARS Thursday Challenge No. 229: Cool Treats Bundle

DOstamper STARS Thursday Challenge #229

Time for the DOstamper STARS Thursday Challenge, this week it is a "Home Sweet Home" Challenge.

This week I was inspired by memories of summertime and ice cream.

I love the colors of this card, reminds me of orange, lemon and raspberry sherbet.

We only had sherbet on special occasions...actually only when we were sick (which isn't really a special occasion)!

There are so many options:

  • sea life
  • vibrant colors

Here is what I saw...

Garden in Bloom-Alternate

So...

This week I made not 1 but 2 cards for the Thursday Challenge.

One I loved and the other I like a lot but it was not my favorite. I decided to post the one I liked a lot because it had more of the colors that were included in the inspiration pic.

After mulling it over in my head for a couple days, I decided I should really share the card that I loved.

Garden in Bloom card created by Dawn Thomas #crackedpotstamper #stampinup

If you saw the card from the Thursday challenge, you may recognize that is the same but different

Same design...different colors!

What do I use to create this beauty? aka Supply List

Stamp Set:  Garden in Bloom

Paper:  Chocolate Chip, Pool Party, Thick Whisper White and Blushing Bride Glimmer Paper

Ink: Chocolate Chip, Sweet Sugarplum and Pool Party

Tools:  Big Shot, Sunshine Wishes Thinlits, Stampin' Trimmer, Fine Tip Glue Pen, Fast Fuse Adhesive

It's All in the Details

  • If you look closely at the word "hope", you will see that there is the glimmer paper layered on top of Chocolate Chip--I did this to create a little lift and the illusion of a shadow. Adds just a little extra to the card.

I know the alternate card is very subtly different but I wanted to share it with you.

Blessings and Joy to you,

Dawn

DOstamperSTARS Challenge #181: Swirly Bird plus Love and Affection = Sneak Peek x2

Time for another Thursday Challenge and this week is a Sketch Challenge. I couldn't resist playing with the new catalog items that I was able to pre-order as a demonstrator. Just one of the many great perks of being a demonstrator. If you would like to learn more about the perks, I would love to share what I know with you. Simply drop me a line and we can chat.

So, this is the sketch for this week. Don't you just love it? I do!

DSC#181

And Wa-Lah! Here is my interpretation of the sketch.

DSC#181, Thursday Sketch Pad Challenge, card created by Dawn Thomas, Cracked Pot Stamper, #CrackedPotStamper, #stampinup

I love these 2 new sets: Love & Affection and Swirly Birds. Although each time I say Swirly Bird I am magically transported back to middle school when the word "swirly" meant something much different. Nobody wanted that kind of "swirly"!

What do I use to create this beauty? aka Supply List

Stamp Set: Love & Affection--available June 1, 2016

Paper: Crumb Cake cardstock (CS), Night of Navy CS, Whisper White CS and Flirty Flamingo CS (new In-Color coming 6/1/16) and the Affectionately Yours Designer Series Specialty Paper (definitely a "Must-Have"-it is gorgeous)

Ink: Versamark Ink

Embellishments: Crushed Cucumber Thick Baker's Twine and Copper Embossing Powder-both available June 1st!

Tools: Heat tool, Embossing Buddy, Swirly Scribbles Thinlets

It's All in the Details

  • Add a few small flowers to the background in a random pattern (or would that be considered a non-pattern since it is random? Hmm...something to ponder). This will help add some interest while accentuating the flowers in the Designer Series Paper swirls

DOstamperSTARS Thursday Challenge-DSC#178-You're So Sweet Shaker

Holy Moley-time flies when you're having fun!! This week I have been having so much fun playing with the new items from the upcoming catalog. One of the perks of being a demonstrator and attending the OnStage Live event is Salt Lake City was that I was able to participate in the Pre-Order Purchase Premiere...it's a lot to try to say but it is worth it!!

Well, back to business. This weeks challenge is a Sketch Pad challenge. This is the sketch we were given as a jumping off point.

While in Salt Lake City last week, I took a class on shaker cards. Shaker cards have never been my thing because I thought they must be difficult to make. Boy, was I ever wrong! They are easy peasy!! And super fun! I know you will want to give them a try!

DSC#173-Botanical Blooms

It's Thursday Challenge time.

This weeks DOstamper STARS Thursday Challenge is a Home Sweet Home challenge. The challenge picture contained a plethora of inspiration as you can see below.

DSC#173

Where does one even begin?

  • Teapots
  • black and white color scheme
  • floral image
  • strings or twine
  • checker board
  • So many paths a person could take, what shall I do?

Alas, I remembered seeing a beautiful card that was created by another very talented demonstrator Dena Rekow and I thought to myself, "Self, you should give that idea a whirl". Well, mine did not turn out exactly the same but I do believe I like it and I hope you do also.

DSC#169-Sketch Pad

Good Day Friends.

This week's DOstamper Thursday Challenge was to create a card from this sketch:

DSC#169

This type of challenge is always fun for me because the basic idea is provided so all I have to do is have fun picking out the details and accessories. I couldn't make up my mind so I ended up with two cards for this sketch...same design different colors. And I love both of them. Please leave me a comment and let me know which one is your favorite.

www.crackedpotstamper.typepad.com
Mint Macaron Option

This was the first one I made with the beautiful 2015-2016 In Color Mint Macaron and silver. I love this color because it reminds me of mint chocolate chip ice cream, which is one of my favs.

The second card I made was with Blushing Bride and Gold. To be honest, Blushing Bride was not a color I used too terribly much until this new Occasions catalog. In the past if I wanted to use pink, my first choice was ALWAYS Pink Pirouette followed by Melon Mambo. I have to say Blushing Bride is one of my new favorites-I especially like it paired with Gold as in this card. I think it is lovely and I hope you do as well.

Dawn's Supply List

I've included a list of specific item used in each particular color combination and a general supply list for the items used in both cards. Thought it might be easier that way instead of having to two separate lists with duplicate items.
